California Civil Liberties Public Education Program to hold public meeting
SACRAMENTO - The Advisory Committee of the California Civil Liberties Public Education Program (CCLPEP) will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, September 26, 2006. The meeting will take place in Room 500 of the Library and Courts Building, 914 Capitol Mall, in Sacramento. It will begin at 9:30 am, and adjourn by 5:00 pm. Public commentary is welcomed, but may be limited due to time constraints.
At the meeting, the CCLPEP Advisory Committee will discuss outcomes of the 2005 Notice to All conference, priorities for the upcoming grant cycle, development of the Advisory Committee, and other short and long-range planning issues for the program.
The California Civil Liberties Public Education Program provides grants for public education activities and materials to heighten public understanding of the United States government’s exclusion, forced removal and incarceration of civilians and permanent resident aliens of Japanese ancestry during World War II. The grant program also funds activities and materials that ensure no other ethnic group is deprived of its civil rights. The CCLPEP Advisory Committee is appointed by the State Librarian of California, and provides CCLPEP with community input and guidance.
In addition, Program Director Elaine Yamaguchi will be holding regional public information meetings over the next month. Check the CCLPEP website for the meeting schedule: www.library.ca.gov/grants/cclpep/index.html.
For more information on this meeting or about CCLPEP, please contact Elaine Yamaguchi, CCLPEP Director, at (916) 651-0383, or email Yamaguchi at eyamaguchi@library.ca.gov.
