About Get Involved


Get Involved: Powered By Your Library is expanding the visibility and contributions of skilled volunteers in California public libraries. Millions of Californians, beginning with Baby Boomers, but including Gen X and Millenials, are seeking new ways to use their skills and experience to make a difference. Libraries are positioned to engage these volunteers to extend library services and capacity, and to add to the ranks of library advocates and supporters.

Get Involved is raising awareness about high-skilled volunteers and preparing libraries to recruit, engage, train and support skilled volunteers more effectively. California libraries are successfully recruiting high skilled volunteers in positions like: Job Center Coach, Event Planner, Computer Coach, Graphic Designer, Photographer, Adult Literacy Tutor, After School Program Coordinator, and Homework Coach.

A statewide partnership with provides free upgraded online volunteer recruitment accounts for every library in the state. To date, 82% of public library jurisdictions have opened their VolunteerMatch accounts, and statewide, libraries are posting nearly 800 library volunteer opportunities on the site, and are receiving about 800 referrals per month – a referral is when a potential volunteer offers themselves for a volunteer opportunity.
