Summer Reading Program 2018
Like reading books and winning prizes? Then we’ve got the summertime activity for you! BTBL is pleased to announce that we are continuing, and improving, our Summer Reading Program.
Our summer reading program is open to BTBL patrons of all ages. It runs from June 1st to August 31st 2018. Any books you check out or download from the library, in audio or braille, count. Report to BTBL the books you read for the Summer Reading Program and receive a participation prize. Please submit your information by August 31st to be eligible for your prize.
If you’d like us to send you a Summer Reading Program packet (containing large print materials about the program), contact us and we will get one on the way for you. There is also a preaddressed envelope in your Summer Reading Program packet to help you return your completed reading log or Bingo Book card to us. Be sure to include your full name on your form or in your email/fax. For adult patrons, please also provide your phone number on any submitted materials.
Every adult participant who reads 10 or more books from June 1st to August 31st will receive a Starbucks gift card and a large print participation certificate (let us know if you would prefer braille). Reading more than 10 books does not result in additional prizes, just the exceptionally awesome experience of getting to read even more books. Participants who complete the Summer Reading Program will have their rewards mailed to the address we have on file for them in September or they may pick up their prize at the library if they so choose.
Every juvenile or young adult patron who returns their Book Bingo card, reading log, or emails us their book information (titles of the books you read) will win a prize! You can challenge yourself to read as many books as you wish. We are offering all our juvenile and young adult participants $5 gift cards for Baskin-Robbins® and large print participation certificates (let us know if you would prefer braille).
Your Summer Reading Packet includes a large print Book Bingo card and some tactile and scratch-n-sniff stickers. Use the included stickers to cover spaces that describe the books you’ve read. One book may count for multiple spaces. There are no wrong answers; if you feel the book you read was scary, long, full of action, and had a silly character, cover all those spaces! Try to fill a full horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row. You may keep any extra stickers you don’t use.
To be eligible for a prize, you must submit your reading log or Book Bingo card to us by August 31st. You can submit your materials by:
- Mail (a return envelope is enclosed in your Summer Reading packet)
Unfortunately, we cannot accept your reading log over the phone.
You can read any book you like as long as it is part of the BTBL library collection, including BARD books. In the case of multiple books on one cartridge, like series books, you may count each title separately as a completed book.
If you’re looking for some fun book ideas, check out the Ravenous Readers’ Corner for links to national bestseller lists and other book-centric sites. Your Summer Reading Program packet also includes some choice bibliographies in large print for you. If you can’t access our bibliographies online, contact us and request they be sent to you in large print. We have dozens of bibliographies, so we can send you a few from categories that interest you.
Your Reader Advisor is also a great source for finding a new book to read. Contact us and we’d be happy to find you something based on your preferences.
