Library Hours and Holidays

Furlough Closure: To comply with the Governor's furlough order, the California State Library will close its offices and public service desks in Sacramento and San Francisco the first three Fridays of each month, from August 2009 through June 2010. Click here for a complete list of furlough days through June 2010.

The public service desks and reading rooms in Sacramento are open Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding state holidays and furlough Fridays (see above).

The Sutro Library in San Francisco is open Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding state holidays and furlough Fridays. Saturday hours have been discontinued. The Sutro Library will be closed the first three Fridays of each month from August 2009 through June 2010. Click here for a complete list of furlough days through June 2010.
