California Cultural and Historical Endowment announces new grant application

SACRAMENTO - The California Cultural and Historical Endowment ("the Endowment") has launched round two of its series of grant applications for Proposition 40 bond funds. $43 million will be available to winning applicants in this second cycle of the Endowment's application cycles.

Endowment leaders have modified the lengthy grant application process so that it will be easier for applicants to vie for funds. Because the Endowment's grant application deadline date is January 31, 2006, applicants will now have approximately three months to gather application materials versus three weeks during the last round. In addition, applicants will now apply in divisions based on the applicant's annual operating budget, thus allowing like sized organizations to actively compete in the application process.

For applicants who are in the initial phases of launching a capital assets project, a separate planning grant division has been established.

Proposition 40 called for the creation of the California Cultural and Historical Endowment to support the "acquisition, development, preservation, and interpretation of buildings, structures, sites, places, and artifacts that preserve and demonstrate culturally significant aspects of California's history and for grants for these purposes." To carry out Proposition 40's mandate, the Endowment will, over the cycles established by its Board, distribute $122 million of $276 million in Proposition 40 funds.

For more information on the Endowment's round two grant application please contact Endowment's Executive Officer Diane Matsuda at 916-651-8223 or toll-free 866-311-2178. Or please send an email to endowment@library.ca.gov .
